Mains Pressure or High Pressure Hot Water Heating and Cylinders

Mains Pressure or High Pressure Hot Water Cylinders

Mains Pressure Cylinders is a term used to identify the higher pressure cylinders superseding the low pressure models.

For the early part of New Zealand’s history most houses had a supply tank in the ceiling feeding the hot water cylinder.

Houses were pipe sized for this low pressure, but shower pressure was often softer, and sinks and tubs filled slower.

The low pressure models were often made with copper and the high pressure models were usually made with Steel or stainless steel.

Advantages to high pressure

The high pressure models can have smaller pipes sizes and high pressure taps. There is a bigger selection of taps and shower mixers to

choose from.

Better shower pressure.

Sinks and tubs fill faster.

Disadvantages of High Pressure Water Heaters

Cylinders have a shorter life.

Tapware has a shorter life.

More hot water is used.

The installation is more expensive than low pressure.

The valve kit can have more maintenance.
